Where Next?
We have been thinking about a trip next summer. The Canadian Maritimes look good, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and of course Newfoundland, the home of Effie’s ancestors. It will be shorter in time and driving, but it really looks good.
Been studying maps and looking at a few travel blogs and talking to some people and thinking about also taking the short ferry from Newfoundland to Labrador. Have a friend that spent some time up there doing research, and she said it is a great place. The miles of roads (especially paved roads) there are less than even the Yukon.
It is possible to take a road there from Quebec. The idea of taking the ferry from Newfoundland and then driving north from there and taking a ferry to Goose Bay, then driving to Labrador City and down through he Province of Quebec to Quebec City and then home has crossed our minds. It would be over 500 miles on gravel roads. The van is certainly not a 4 wheel drive vechicle, and there are things like tires and broken windshields from stones to think about.
We really want to spend the most time in Newfoundland on this trip, and the planning and dreaming continues.

when you get to Prince Edward Island, please visit charming Victoria-by-the-Sea and stop by a little chocolate store there; they have real chocolate (wink) newfoundlands (food) and 3 or 4 black real newfies (pets). the town is small, like 3 blocks each way (you can park by the post office–you will see it upon entering–and walk down to the pier and the lighthouse. That was the best place we visited.
Also, find the glass-house from the tour maps–visit it on a sunny day! You will enjoy it, bring bug-spray though :-).
Charlottetown has a nice boardwalk, but visit it on a cloudy day or very early in the morning. Efiie will get a lot of patting there.
Keep us posted on your trip. When get back, let us know–we should get together.
O and the Crew.

Hey, that couple at Port au Choix sounds like George and I when we arrive at a campground! He keeps the windows closed and then complains that I don’t give good directions for backing the trailer in….LOL
Sounds like you’re having a blast! Pics are great!
