Grand Canyon
Arrived at the Grand Canyon last night 5/16 and went to our reserved site - be here until Monday. There are no hookups at our site, but a walk to the cafeteria has WiFi - so may be able to get caught up a little.
Saw an elk right on the road eating stuff in the median strip - then two more along the road - as well as a few mule deer.
Sunday morning - took the shuttle bus to the western viewpoints and saw a condor on the way back - we were on the bus so we couldn’t get a photo - big bird.
You can get a mule trip down the canyon if you reserve ahead - either a day or two. The day trip goes down to a point where you can look over a lower cliff into the Colorado river - you can see the trail here. Click on the photo- it is good sized - sorry if you only have dialup.
It is about a mile down to the river. I used the 250 mm zoom to see the mules on the trail - you may have to click on the photo and zoom your computer to see them in the following photo.
We had some close neighbors.
The visitors center had an old boat that they used to run down the Colorado.
The rapids were hard to visualize from the top, but there are many and they are big.
There were a few nice masonry buildings that were used as gift shops, etc.
Mary Anne took many flower photos - sometimess in what seemed to be very desolate places.
Will post lots more later
